10 Years Ago Today: Kid Rock’d

10 Years ago today many of us were in Las Vegas for what was a balls-to-the wall rock show.  The show had so many fun things going for it.

Set 1: Carini, Rift, Frankenstein, Mellow Mood, Wilson > Spock’s Brain > Bathtub Gin > Character Zero
Set 2: Dinner and a Movie, Moma Dance > 2001, Fluffhead > jam > Meatstick, Walk This Way, Rapper’s Delight > You Shook Me (All Night Long)

Wilson had a heavy metal jam, we saw the first Spock’s Brain since summer 1995 (391 shows), first Dinner and a Movie since early 1997 (242 shows), a rare Carini opener, a wonderful Bathtub Gin into a high-octane Character Zero–and, of course, Kid Rock coming out for Walk this Way, Rapper’s Delight > You Shook Me and We’re an American Band.  The energy in the Thomas & Mack Arena was already through the roof because of the location, especially with the rumors in the air that Phish would be calling it quits after the current tour–when Kid Rock came out for these classic rock anthems (and Rapper’s Delight), the crowd jumped through the roof.  I always wanted to see Phish play You Shook Me.
