First off, welcome to the new site. For those of you who are new to OPT, I’m Guy Forget, the news anchor and occasional ph-undit. And yes, Guy Forget is my real name, but no, I am not the French tennis player. Same name, different guy. You should follow me on twitter, and email me with any news tips.
Now to the news:
- ACL Soundcheck. The launch of the new OPT is obviously the most exciting news of the week, but the beginning of fall tour is a close second. The guys played their soundcheck in Austin today; they played Burn That Bridge a few times, and apparently nothing else. This song is becoming something of a soundcheck staple–the band checked it at Jones Beach, the Greek, and Saratoga, among others–but it’s so far been played in front of an audience only with TAB. Maybe that will change in Austin. Video of one aborted rendition from today is here. Head to Hidden Track for more info on the song, including lyrics and a download. As you can see, the Phish version is quite a bit more upbeat than TAB’s.
- Live Bait Vol. 2 now available. LivePhish has just released the second installment of its free Live Bait series (though the first seems to have disappeared). The compilation features some choice jams from the second leg of Summer 2010, including the memorable Down With Disease > What’s the Use from Alpine Valley. Other selections: Wilson > Light > 20 Years Later from the Greek; Possum from Jones Beach; NO2 > Kung from Deer Creek; Bug from Alpine Valley. Get it here.
- Worcester Presale. The general onsale date for the December 27-28 shows in Worcester is Sunday, but there is a venue presale tomorrow (Friday) at 10 a.m. at Ticketmaster’s website. The password is JOY.
