AUGUSTA — The University of Maine at Augusta has called off classes Tuesday night, when Vermont jam band Phish takes the stage at the Augusta Civic Center.

The 5,000-student college says classes that take place on the Augusta campus and classes students take remotely, but are broadcast from the Augusta campus off Civic Center Drive, are canceled if they’re scheduled for 4 p.m. or later.Other UMA events and activities are also canceled, and the college’s offices will close at 4 p.m.

A notice on the UMA website says the college is canceling classes because of the “extraordinary traffic” expected around the Augusta Civic Center — which is close to UMA’s campus and hosts some UMA classes — as a result of the sold-out Phish concert.
