Via Hidden Track, an article appeared in Corning, NY, newspaper The Leader today, addressing rumors that Phish would be playing the western New York racetrack next summer (the article is in the right sidebar). Watkins Glen International president Michael Printup says:
“We’re talking to some folks, except that it’s so far off right now,” he said. “There’s no ink on paper, there’s discussions and phone calls. If we can get it done in cooperation with Schuyler County, we’d like to get it done.”
Most of the rumors have centered around July 4th weekend. Though some have speculated that the site would host a Phish festival, others have thrown out the possibility of a Furthur-Allman Brothers Band-Phish bill, with the boys opening for the remnants of the two bands which, along with The Band, headlined the 1973 Summer Jam at Watkins Glen, which attracted 600,000 people.
We’ll of course be tuned in to any developments on Watkins Glen or any other possible plans for 2011, and will keep you updated if we hear anything.
