If you’ve ever seen Phish’s Live in Vegas DVD, you know that fans organized a crowd sing-along of “Happy Birthday” to Trey at the beginning of the second set. Trey expressed his gratitude by announcing later in the set that the band would be going on hiatus. Apparently hoping for a similar outcome, fan Scott Anderson wants to repeat the feat for Mike Gordon’s 46th birthday on June 3rd at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston, Michigan. As the Facebook page Scott set up points out, this is Mike’s first birthday show since the 80s, so it’s a rare opportunity.
If you’ll be at the show, here’s what you need to know:
- The song will be sung as the band walks out on stage for the first set.
- Scott hopes to be able to bring an airhorn into the venue. When you hear it, start singing.
- In the event he can’t get the airhorn in, the plan is to wait until the initial round of cheers ends.
- Scott will be handing out flyers at the show. Feel free to print out your own copies and hand them out pre-show. Or you can use what we’re calling a “verbal flyer,” which consists of telling people.
Scott, if the band announces another hiatus later in the set, we’re all holding you personally responsible.
