The folks at Phish, Inc. and LivePhish have been busy this holiday season. After a near-perfect run of shows was given a perfect Kevorkian remaster for Hampton/Winston-Salem ’97 earlier this winter, the announcement came that the MSG run would be live-streamed to everyone relegated to couch tour. If not to be outdone but themselves, Phish released “Phish 12/31/91, Worcester Memorial Auditorium, Worcester, MA” late Friday as the band continued to rock the hallowed halls of MSG.
Featuring an unbelievable blend of a D-AUD and D-SBD recording of the show from music engineering regular Jon Altschiller, and the stylings of Fred Kevorkian’s remastering, 12.31.91′s new release builds on great digital soundboard recordings from the early-to-mid 90′s that float throughout the tape-trading scene.
Bringing together the gritty energy from the crowd and the relaxed playing from a band finding its true footing is what makes this release truly special.
Aside from the well-known Tweezer > McGrupp pairing, the Buried Alive > Auld Lang Syne > Runaway Jim combo and the subsequent Landlady > Reba highlight a classic New Year’s Eve show on the East Coast.
To wet your whistle, Phish included the amazing Tweezer > McGrupp combo as an instant download.
